Two infills
1983 - Église Saint-Étienne de Beauvais, Beauvais

The first infill is a window dedicated to Saint Nicholas, containing at the top of the left lancet a very fine ship by Jean Le Prince. The two right-hand lancets hold panels that came from another window.

Second infill
In the second infill, in the left lancet, on panels executed by Engrand Le Prince, a tall figure points to the soul rising from the dead man being carried to his tomb. The panels of the next two lancets show the Fountain of Life attributed to the Master of Montmorency, which should have been laid out across all three lancets. Jean Taralon, Inspector General of Historic Monuments, had told me that after the surviving elements from different windows were reinstalled in these two bays, he, my father and Louis Grodecki had marveled at these panels, whose beauty had been brought back to light. I obtained scaffolding beneath the windows so that I could execute the accompanying cartoons for the work, which was meant to showcase and rebalance the mismatched old panels. Up on that scaffolding I felt an incredible happiness, among the Le Princes and the Master of Montmorency. The photos show the windows before and after the infills.
